If you live in the Village, the U.S. Kids Golf fortnight is not the parade you already know about. It is a two-week rotation that quietly pulls Longleaf, Talamore, and three of the Pinehurst numbered courses out of general circulation, then compresses the disruption you actually feel into ninety minutes on one Tuesday evening.
The thesis, before the calendar
Residents tend to plan around the Parade of Nations because the parade is the thing that shows up on the Village website. That is the wrong pivot point. The tee sheets at the local family and public-access courses are the mechanism worth watching. Once you know which course becomes a junior venue on which day, the parade becomes a fifteen-minute walk from the Holly Inn, and your Saturday morning golf plan stops disappearing on you.
The fortnight, in one glance
The 2026 World Teen Championship runs July 23 through 26, and the World U.S. Kids Championship runs July 30 through August 2, with the Van Horn Cup closing each championship. The Van Horn Cup for the U.S. Kids field is contested on Pinehurst No. 4.

The scale you are absorbing
Over two weeks, more than 2,200 players from 55 countries and all 50 states compete on championship courses throughout the Sandhills. That is the number that explains why the grocery lines change, why Chapman's is three deep at 7 a.m., and why you cannot get a same-day cart at Longleaf on Monday the 27th. The players bring parents and coaches, and the field density is concentrated on public-access and semi-private courses rather than the resort tracks that tourists picture.
The Monday most residents miss
The Parent-Child scramble is the sleeper day. The Boys and Girls Parent-Child tournaments are held Monday, July 27th at Longleaf Golf & Family Club, Pinehurst No. 6, and Talamore Golf Resort. If your standing Monday round is at any of the three, it is not happening that morning. If your standing Monday round is anywhere else, it is the easiest tee time of the fortnight, because half of your regular foursome is watching a nine-year-old chip.
Entry fees for the World Championship run $475 for 9-hole participants and $575 for 18-hole participants, and include three championship rounds, the Parade of Nations, tee gifts, and pre-round range balls. The reason that number matters to you as a resident is that it sets the seriousness of the field. These are not casual junior golfers on a summer trip. Parents are traveling from Seoul and São Paulo, and the caddie bibs get ordered months in advance. The courses treat the week accordingly.
The Tuesday evening, turn by turn
If you want to watch the Parade of Nations, walk. Do not drive. Here is the actual route, in order:
- Assemble at Pinehurst Resort Tennis Club at 6 p.m.
- South on Carolina Vista Drive, past the Carolina Hotel
- Right on Ritter Road
- Right on Chinquapin Road
- Terminate in the Village center
The Parade of Nations begins at 6 p.m. at the Pinehurst Resort Tennis Club, with a route taking the parade participants down Carolina Vista toward the Carolina Hotel, right on Ritter Road, right on Chinquapin Road, and ends in the center of the Village of Pinehurst.
The closures you need to plan for:
Carolina Vista will be closed to local traffic from 5:00–6:30 p.m. Cherokee Road, Chinquapin Road and Village Green West will remain closed until the completion of the parade.
Translation: if you live off Cherokee, plan to be either home by 4:45 or out until 8:15. If your dinner reservation is in the Village center, park at the Given Memorial Library lot before 4:30 and walk in. The best sight line for the finish is the north edge of Tufts Park, where there will be food options for purchase and family games immediately following the parade at Tufts Park.
The parade itself is worth staying for. The Cross Creek Pipes and Drums march in the parade, and the 82nd Airborne Division All-American Band and Chorus from Fort Bragg provides some music. A mariachi band walks with the Mexican delegation. If you have grandchildren visiting, this is the evening to have them in the Village.
What actually happens to your tee sheet
The most useful mental model is that the fortnight pulls three tiers of course inventory out of resident circulation on staggered days.
- Family and public-access tracks carry the junior fields. Longleaf and Talamore are the ones residents feel most, because those are the tee sheets locals actually book.
- Pinehurst numbered courses rotate through as championship venues. The Van Horn Cup is contested on Pinehurst No. 4, and No. 6 and No. 8 pull duty during the earlier rounds.
- Private club rounds are largely unaffected, which is worth knowing if you have reciprocal privileges through Pinewild, Forest Creek, or The Country Club of North Carolina. This is the fortnight to use them.
The practical read: if your golf is at Longleaf or Talamore, block the last week of July on your calendar now and book somewhere else. If your golf is at a private club inside a gated community, this is the two-week stretch where the fairways get quieter, not busier, because your usual foursome is out watching the kids.
The weekday you get back
Wednesday, July 29, is the recovery day. The Teen Championship has ended on the 26th, the Van Horn Cup for the teen field has run on the 26th, and the U.S. Kids field has not yet started championship play. The Village empties out for about eighteen hours between the closing of one championship and the tee sheets filling for the next. If you have been putting off a Village errand, that is the window.
And then Labor Day
The other reason to think about the fortnight now is that the Pinehurst Barbecue Festival runs Friday, September 4 through Sunday, September 6, 2026, with the High On The Hog Pitmaster Dinner at the Pinehurst Fair Barn, a Q-School Grilling Class at the Moore County Airport, and the Pitmaster Invitational in the Village of Pinehurst. Five weeks separate the Van Horn Cup from the Fair Barn. If you host visiting family, that is the summer arc worth planning around.
Two questions residents keep asking
Can I still get into Village restaurants during parade week?
Yes, if you book the Monday or the Thursday. Tuesday evening is not the night for a walk-in at the Deuce or the Ryder Cup Lounge. The Wednesday between the two championships is the quietest dinner of the fortnight.
Should I keep my Longleaf Monday standing tee time?
No. Monday, July 27th, Longleaf Golf & Family Club, Pinehurst No. 6, and Talamore Golf Resort host the Parent-Child tournaments. Move to a Tuesday morning that week and give yourself the parade evening off.
